Poh Jia'En

Jia’En joined the Biomedical Science and Chinese Medicine programme in 2019 and is now a third-year student. In these three years, she came to understand what Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can offer and its approaches to treating illnesses. As such, she aims to share her knowledge with others through this project.

Often, young adults have misconceptions or insufficient knowledge about TCM as an alternative option for healthcare and medical treatment. Hence, she aims to collaborate with her neighbourhood's Community Centre to clear the public's common misconceptions via a sharing session and increase their understanding towards TCM. She also aims to spark their interest and increase their acceptance towards this alternative medical treatment. Future collaborations with other Community Centres may be done to increase outreach.

Zhang Jiayi

Zhang Jiayi

Jiayi joined the School of Biological Sciences with a second major in Food Science & Technology in 2020 and is now a second-year student.

While intending to continue her postgraduate studies in biomedicine, Jiayi is also passionate about health care support for the vulnerable group through community engagement projects. Hence, she has been involved in the RedCross Youth NTU Chapter since year one, and the interactions with various beneficiaries allow her to gain a deeper appreciation for community service.

With this award, Jiayi will collaborate the RedCross Youth NTU Chapter on a series of "Healthier Living" educational talks and activities for NTU support staff, such as cleaners and security guards. This project aims to show gratitude to the support staff and raise their awareness of healthy lifestyles.
