NTU RANKED 46TH IN LATEST TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION GLOBAL RANKINGS

NTU moved up one spot to 46th place in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings. One of the youngest universities in the top 50, NTU notably improved its performance in citations per paper, as well as its scores for teaching and industry income (knowledge transfer). Overall, NTU has climbed 128 places in the last 11 years. Earlier in June, NTU clinched the top position in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings for the first time. 

LKCMEDICINE DEAN KICKS OFF INAUGURAL HEALTH AND SOCIETY SEMINAR

On 8 September, LKCMedicine Dean Professor Joseph Sung kicked off the NTU Health and Society Research Cluster seminar series by sharing his insights on lessons gleaned from the 2003 SARS outbreak and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Addressing more than 100 participants, Prof Sung shared his observations on what these pandemics have taught us about fighting infectious diseases. 

LKCMEDICINE PARTICIPATES IN NHG-LKCMEDICINE SYMPOSIUM ON CLINICAL TRIALS

LKCMedicine Faculty presented and led discussions at the NHG-LKCMedicine Symposium on Clinical Trials held on 19 August. Attended online by more than 130 participants, the lectures looked at clinical trials that changed the global practice of medicine, how to harness support as a Principal Investigator, and what is needed to build a research programme for clinical research and translation. The lectures were followed by a panel discussion. 

HEALTH INSTITUTIONS SET UP ASIAN CLINICAL RESEARCH NETWORK TO FOCUS ON DRUG-RESISTANT INFECTIONS

LKCMedicine, together with the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Duke-NUS Medical School and the National Centre of Infectious Diseases, have jointly established the Asian Clinical Research Network to conduct antimicrobial clinical research to develop the most effective ways to treat and prevent life-threatening drug-resistant infections. Hosted by the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, this will be the first such network established in Asia focusing on drug-resistant infections. The Wellcome Trust has provided a grant of $2.5 million towards this purpose, and each institution has also committed $500,000, bringing the total funding for this network to S$5 million. The Singapore Clinical Research Institute will also be involved in implementing this network.

WORKSHOP BRINGS TOGETHER EXPERTS ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ROBOTICS FOR THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF THE ELDERLY

On 13 August, LKCMedicine hosted the second research development workshop on artificial intelligence and robotics (AI-R) for the health and well-being of the elderly. Held both online and at NTU’s Experimental Medicine Building, the joint workshop provided a platform for consolidating ideas from the various proposals and strategising for grant submission. Lead Principal Investigators from each domain group presented their research projects and facilitated discussions with over 30 participants.
