The Bachelor of Science in Maritime Studies emphasises shipping business and management, offering a flexible and comprehensive curriculum that equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the shipping and maritime sectors. A key feature of the program is the Professional Internship, which provides valuable industry exposure and prepares students for a seamless transition into their professional careers after graduation.

With the Second Major in Sustainability, students gain a deeper understanding of the interactions between the environment, economy, and society, as well as insights into technological innovation and policymaking. As the maritime industry undergoes a significant energy transition — embracing decarbonization through electrification, low-carbon fuels, optimisation tools, and efficient technologies — this programme empowers graduates with the expertise to promote sustainable practices and contribute meaningfully to the development of a greener, more environmentally responsible maritime industry.

Interdisciplinary Common Core (ICC) curriculum

The programme is designed to provide a comprehensive education and create diverse opportunities that harness students' talents, nurturing graduates without boundaries.

The Interdisciplinary Common Core (ICC) curriculum enhances teaching outcomes and prepares our students for lifelong learning. The ICC curriculum consists of:
  • Interdisciplinary Collaborative Core (ICC): approximately 25%
  • Major Requirements (Core and Major Prescribed Electives): approximately 60%
  • Broadening and Deepening Electives (BDE): approximately 15%

Duration

The Bachelor of Science (Maritime Studies) with Second Major in Sustainability is a four-year, full-time direct honours programme.


Second Major in Sustainability

In addition to the Core Programme Requirements, students must complete at least 30 AUs, which include 5 compulsory courses (one from each knowledge area: People, Planet, Profit, Practice, and Policy), elective courses, and an interdisciplinary project.
