Investing in Minds, Building Community: Applications Open for Lim Kim San Memorial Scholarship
Students from lower-income families who are pursuing full-time undergraduate programmes in language, linguistics and humanities at local universities are invited to apply for the Lim Kim San Memorial Scholarship, an initiative aimed at easing financial burdens while nurturing future leaders in the arts and social sciences.
Among the 2025 recipients of the scholarship is Mr Raulinder Singh, 29, a fourth-year History student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Balancing his academic commitments with part-time work in previous years, Mr Singh said the scholarship has provided him with greater peace of mind in his final year of studies, allowing him to focus more fully on his coursework and research.
Inspired by the opportunity, Mr Singh has begun giving back to the community by offering free English tuition to students from families in need. He conducts weekly lessons, helping them strengthen their reading comprehension and writing skills, subjects he believes are foundational to academic success.
Applications for the Lim Kim San Memorial Scholarship are open to eligible students who demonstrate financial need, academic merit and a passion for their chosen field of study. Through the scholarship, SPH Foundation hopes to continue building a pipeline of graduates who are not only academically accomplished but also committed to serving the wider community.
