Celebrating Our Everyday Heroes: Custodian Appreciation Day 2026

The 5th edition of Custodian Appreciation Day was held on 9 January 2026, an initiative originally conceptualised by the SoH Club, who once again invited the SSS Club to collaborate in making the event a success. This annual programme provides students from both schools an opportunity to express their appreciation to the custodial staff who keep the campus clean and welcoming, while offering the custodians a day of enjoyment alongside students. This year, close to 40 custodians from key campus locations, including the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Building (SHHK), The Hive, Chinese Heritage Centre (CHC), South Spine, and Wee Cho Yaw Plaza, joined in the activities.
The programme began with a mass icebreaker, where custodians wrote conversation questions on post-its and swapped them with other participants, allowing volunteers and custodians alike to bond and get to know each other better. This was followed by small group games, including the custodians’ favourite, a Number Matching Game similar to bingo, which encouraged friendly competition and interaction.
Each custodian also received a carefully curated welfare pack, prepared after interviews by the SoH Club to better understand their needs and the most meaningful ways to show appreciation. As part of the annual tradition, a group photo was taken during the event, printed, and handed to the custodians as a memento, concluding a heartwarming occasion that celebrated the dedication of the custodial staff and strengthened community spirit across campus.
