In recent months, we have seen a flurry of heated debate spurred by the pandemic about intergroup relationships. Though the pandemic brought this to the fore, this issue is not new and nor is it unique to Singapore. At the core of this thorny fruit are the conflated ideas surrounding language, identity, ethnicity and sense of belonging. The speakers on this panel will try to unpack the threads of discontent in this discourse and highlight the uncomfortable reality behind the ideology that shapes our thinking. This is an informal chat session with lots of time for active participation from the audience.
