FlexiMasters in Business Administration

This FlexiMasters programme is a compact and practical introduction to the core concepts of business and management. It is designed for professionals looking to deepen their knowledge and expand their business acumen and management capabilities. Through carefully curated courses, learners will gain foundational competencies in areas such as strategic thinking, leadership, operations, and ethical decision-making. The FlexiMasters in Business Administration is mapped to the Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA) from NTU's Nanyang Business School (NBS).

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Build essential business and management foundations across finance, marketing and operations.
  • Strengthen strategic thinking and leadership capabilities to lead teams and organisations effectively.
  • Apply financial accounting, analytics, and decision‑making tools to real business challenges.
  • Explore digital business, strategic information technology (IT), and transformation in today’s technology‑driven enterprises.
  • Lead change confidently with practical frameworks for sustained organisational transformation.
  • The programme consists of six courses worth a total of 15 Academic Units (AUs). 
  • Assessment(s) will be conducted during every course and learners will be graded based on their performance in the assessment(s). 
  • As the micro-credential courses are only offered in this FlexiMasters in Business Administration programme, learners are required to enrol into this programme and complete all required courses within this programme.
  • No pre-requisites are needed to enrol in the individual courses. However, learners with relevant qualifications or work experience may benefit more fully from the course content.
  • Mode of class delivery: Classroom

Upon successful completion, the following qualifications will be awarded:

  • A FlexiMasters will be awarded to learners attaining 15 AUs, and achieving a minimum Grade Point of 2.5 (which is equivalent to a letter grade of C+) for each course.
  • A Graduate Certificate will be awarded to learners attaining 9 AUs, with a minimum Grade Point of 2.5 (which is equivalent to a letter grade of C+) for each course.

Pathway to the Master's programme: 

Credits earned are valid for 5 years for transfer of credits to the Professional MBA degree. The minimum Grade Point eligible for transfer of credits to the Professional MBA degree is 2.5 (which is equivalent to a letter grade of C+). Transfer of credits is by application and the application will be assessed and approved by the University in accordance with University Credits Transfer and Course Exemption Policy.

To meet the requirement of SkillsFuture Singapore, assessment(s) will be conducted during every course.

Learners should have a foundational understanding of business and accounting principles, quantitative and analytical skills, and the ability to make rational decisions, supported by prior academic background or work experience in areas such as business, finance, economics, marketing, analytics, leadership, project management, consulting, or decision‑making roles, along with familiarity with current Information Technology (IT) issues, digital technologies, and business innovation.

As the micro-credential courses are only offered in this FlexiMasters in Business Administration programme, learners are required to enrol into this programme and complete all required courses within this programme.

Financial Accounting and Decision Making
(3 AU)

This course integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance financial analysis, interpretation, and decision-making. Learners will apply AI-enabled techniques to analyse financial data, generate insights, and support business decisions, while understanding the limitations and ethical considerations of AI use in accounting contexts. In addition, learners will develop essential quantitative skills to measure and analyse the financial impact of business strategies. This course is ideal for learners with minimal prior exposure, as this course provides a strong foundation in business accounting, financial management and data-driven decision-making for today’s competitive environment.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the interaction between accounting and business for better economic decision-making.
  • Explain how business transactions, which are the result of business decisions, are recorded to determine their impact on financial statements.
  • Identify the role and structure of accounting and control functions within an organisation.
  • Interpret and analyse financial information using basic quantitative and qualitative techniques and use the relevant financial information for planning, control and decision-making.
Managing Growing Ventures

Strategic Information Technology and Digital Business
(3 AU)

This course equips future business leaders with essential Information Technology (IT) and Internet knowledge to make strategic decisions. Learners will discover how IT and e-Business reshape industries and drive competitive advantages in the digital economy. Additionally, they will explore important IT management issues, emerging technologies and their disruptive potential. Learners will gain insights into e-Business opportunities, value creation, cost structures and sustainability in electronic commerce. They will learn how IT impacts key sectors and evaluate opportunities in telecommunications and mobile markets. This course is ideal for learners with minimal prior exposure, seeking a comprehensive, strategic understanding of IT and e-Business.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
  • Identify important Information Technology (IT) management issues and developments to inform business decisions.
  • Examine key technologies and their strategic value and disruptive potential.
  • Describe the impact of IT, in particular e-Business, on a number of key industries.
  • Examine the viability of e-Business opportunities by analysing how value is created, identifying the critical costs involved, and evaluating the extent to which a sustainable competitive advantage can be maintained in an electronic commerce environment.

 

New Venture Financing

Finance for Impact and Transformation
(3 AU)

Designed for professionals without prior finance knowledge, this course builds essential financial literacy for strategic business roles, allowing learners to make informed investment, financing and dividend decisions. Learners are equipped with the skills to calculate hurdle rates, Return on Investment (ROI), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Net Present Value (NPV) to evaluate projects and create shareholder value. Additionally, they will explore optimal capital structures, dividend policies and valuation techniques from a practitioner’s perspective. Learners will gain a holistic understanding of corporate governance and financial strategies that drive sustainable growth, which are skills critical for cross-functional leadership and management positions.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify the corporate governance issues that arise in businesses.
  • Calculate a “hurdle rate” for a company’s investments, serving as a benchmark for evaluating potential projects and deciding whether they create value for shareholders.
  • Estimate a company’s investment returns, which involves calculating metrics such as Return on Investment (ROI), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Net Present Value (NPV), using digital tools such as comprehensive financial databases, to gauge how effectively the company is using its capital to generate value.
  • Estimate the optimal financing mix for a company, using digital tools such as databases of aggregated peer statistics, which includes balancing the benefits of debt with financial risk to maximise the firm’s value and ensure long-term financial sustainability.
  • Describe the considerations around a company’s dividend policy.
  • Implement various valuation methodologies for a real company, using digital tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) optimised valuation models.
Technopreneurial Mindset

Marketing Strategy for the New-Age Enterprise
(3 AU)

This course redefines marketing as a core driver of business leadership and strategy, moving beyond traditional approaches and offering a contemporary take on marketing in an era of hypercompetition and digital disruption. Learners will master essential marketing principles, frameworks and innovative strategies to lead change in competitive markets. Through real-time trends, case studies and insights from the Asian business landscape, learners will learn to solve real-world marketing challenges and develop impactful strategies. This course is ideal for learners who are new to marketing or experienced professionals seeking to thrive in today’s dynamic marketing environment.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the marketing principles, concepts, and frameworks that every business executive, regardless of function and background, will need to develop innovative marketing strategies and lead change in competitive markets.
  • Identify the strategic role of marketing in the firm and explain how the role evolves and needs to be revamped in tandem with revolutionary changes in the business environment.

Leading & Managing Change
(1.5 AU)

This course equips decision-makers, managers and consultants with practical tools and proven frameworks to evaluate business cases, design action plans and lead others through change. Learners are equipped with the skills to initiate, manage and sustain transformation in complex business environments. Learners will explore regional and global contexts, organisational culture and systemic forces that drive or hinder change. Through real-world case studies and strategic insights, learners will master the art of planning and implementing successful change initiatives to achieve long-term impact and business growth.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Evaluate and develop a business case for initiating change.
  • Diagnose factors in a business case to design action plans to lead change.
  • Describe and analyse issues dealing with leading and managing people during the change process.
  • Develop action plans to manage the change process.

Analytics for Decision Making
(1.5 AU)

This course introduces key concepts and techniques in business analytics, with a focus on problem formulation and data-driven decision-making, by applying statistical tools and leveraging data-driven insights. Through real-world case studies and practical applications, learners will master techniques in supervised and unsupervised learning, risk assessment and project feasibility. Learners will gain the skills to design and implement analytics projects that enhance strategy, improve operational efficiency and uncover new business opportunities. This course empowers professionals to translate complex data into actionable strategies aligned with organisational goals, driving competitive advantage in today’s data-centric business environment.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Design and commission a business analytics project in their organisation.
  • Design and execute supervised and unsupervised learning projects.
  • Assess the risk and feasibility of an analytics project.

Funding Requirements

Eligible Singapore Citizens (SCs) aged 39 years and below, and Permanent Residents (PRs), must record at least 75% training attendance and pass all associated assessments to be eligible for funding of up to 70% of the course fee. Learners will have to bear the full course fees upon failure to meet either one of the requirements. 

Mid-career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES) - SCs aged 40 and above must record at least 75% training attendance and pass all associated assessments to be eligible for funding of up to 90% of the course fee. Learners will have to bear the full course fees upon failure to meet either one of the requirements. 

3 Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS) - Small and Medium Enterprise (SME)-sponsored learners must be SCs or PRs and not a full-time national serviceman. SMEs must be: (1) Registered or incorporated in Singapore; with (2) Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million. Courses will also have to be fully paid for by the employer.

    Associate Professor Lee Kin Wai 
    Instructor for:
    Financial Accounting and Decision Making

    Associate Professor Lee Kin Wai is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University. He holds a First-Class Honours degree in Accounting (University Medal), an MBA (Distinction in Finance), and a PhD. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore, CPA Australia, and the American Accounting Association, and has served in various professional and editorial roles related to accounting, corporate governance, and corporate social responsibility.

    Prior to academia, A/P Lee was Group Accounting Manager at a publicly listed multinational corporation. His research interests include financial statement analysis, capital markets, corporate governance, and valuation, with publications in leading international journals and the business press. An award-winning educator, he has received multiple Teacher of the Year and Teaching Excellence awards at both Nanyang Business School and Nanyang Technological University.

     

    Professor Vijay Sethi
    Instructor for:

    Professor Vijay Sethi is Professor in the Department of Information Technology and Operations Management at Nanyang Business School (NBS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He has held several leadership roles at NBS, including Dean of Business Program, Director of International Business Competitions, and Coordinator for India Strategy. He specialises in electronic commerce, IT entrepreneurship, strategic information systems, IT productivity, and knowledge management, and is internationally recognised for his research, with publications in leading information systems journals.


    An award-winning educator, Prof Sethi teaches MBA and executive programmes in IT and e-Business and has received multiple teaching awards. His work focuses on digital disruption, technology economics, data analytics, social media, and intellectual property issues. He is the author of Premier e-Business Cases from Asia and has mentored numerous technology ventures, many of which have won regional business competitions. He also consults extensively with public and private sector organisations in Singapore and beyond.

     


    Dr Nick Orlic
    Instructor for:
    Finance for Impact and Transformation

    Dr Nick Orlic is currently a Senior Lecturer in Finance at Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He previously spent eight years in investment banking, working on mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt deals across Asia. He then received his Ph.D. in Finance from National University of Singapore.

    Dr Nick's research interests include corporate governance, information frictions, agency issues and mergers and acquisitions. His teaching focuses on corporate finance, valuation, corporate governance and mergers and acquisitions.

     


    Associate Professor Lewis Lim 
    Instructor for:
    Marketing Strategy for the New-Age Enterprise

    Associate Professor Lewis Lim is Associate Professor of Marketing Practice at Nanyang Business School. He holds a PhD and Master of Business from Indiana University–Bloomington, USA, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (First Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore. His work focuses on luxury marketing, and he has worked with luxury brands across sectors such as automobiles, watches, jewellery, beauty, leather goods, and lifestyle products, as well as spoken at industry events.

    A/P Lim’s research on luxury omnichannel strategy has been published in Harvard Business Review and other academic and business journals. He teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and has received multiple teaching awards over the years. In addition, he is involved in consulting, executive education, and advisory work with profit and non-profit organisations in the region.

     


    Associate Professor Trevor Yu
    Instructor for:
    Leading & Managing Change

    Associate Professor Trevor Yu is Associate Professor in the Division of Leadership, Management & Organisation at Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University. He holds a PhD in Organisational Behaviour from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research examines organisational behaviour and human capital management, with a focus on how organisations attract, develop, and manage talent.
    A/P Yu’s work has been published in established international journals in psychology, management, and human resources, and he serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals in these fields. He teaches courses in change management, managerial decision-making, organisational behaviour and design, consulting research methods, and total rewards, and has consulted with organisations in the United States and Singapore on employer branding, organisational culture, workplace climate, and team effectiveness.

     


    Professor Goh Kim Huat 
    Instructor for:
    Analytics for Decision Making

    Professor Goh Kim Huat is Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) at Nanyang Business School and Senior Editor of the Journal of the Association for Information Systems. He holds a PhD in Business Administration (Economics and Information Systems) from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. His research applies analytics and economic theory to study human behaviour in healthcare and technology-enabled settings, and he has worked with public and private sector organisations in healthcare, finance, and technology on research, executive training, and analytics projects.

    Prof Goh teaches business analytics and quantitative methods at the graduate and executive levels and has received multiple teaching awards from Nanyang Business School and NTU. He has held key academic leadership roles, including Academic Director of the Nanyang MBA, Chair of the Business Analytics curriculum, and Co-Chair of the NTU Senate, and continues to be actively involved in research, teaching, and graduate education leadership.
