When Rahul Gupta started his MBBS studies at LKCMedicine in 2022, it was “easily the biggest win” of his life as he excitedly embarked on his journey towards becoming a doctor.

Now, as a Year 4 student, he marks another milestone in that journey, becoming one of the first recipients of the newly launched LKCMedicine Mid-Term Scholarship. For Rahul, the scholarship is more than just financial support; it is a source of pride that reinforces his belief in LKCMedicine’s mission.

“I was extremely elated when I received the news in August that I will be receiving this new scholarship! It will motivate me to give my best as I finish my final two years at LKCMedicine before stepping into the medical profession,” he says.

More than an academic accolade, the Mid-Term Scholarships and Merit Awards reflect qualities that lie at the heart of the medical profession. Recipients are selected based on their strong academic performance across the first three years of study, as well as their commitment to upholding the high standards of professionalism expected of future doctors.

Associate Professor Faith Chia, Vice-Dean of Education at LKCMedicine, said: “The scholarships are a testament to our belief that excellence should be recognised and nurtured at every stage of a student's journey. Our Year 4 students have already shown remarkable resilience, intellectual curiosity, clinical skills, and compassion in their first three years of training. These scholarships not only provide financial support but affirm our confidence in their potential to become outstanding physicians. We look forward to seeing the impact they will make in Singapore's healthcare landscape.”

Awarded to the Singaporean students entering Year 4 who are not already receiving full tuition-fee scholarships, the new Mid-Term Scholarships recognise outstanding achievement during the first half of the MBBS journey. Students holding partial scholarships may receive a Mid-Term Merit Award, which enhances their existing support and acknowledges their exceptional performance.

Recipients of the Mid-Term Scholarships and Merit Awards will receive comprehensive support throughout their fourth and fifth years of study. This includes full coverage of subsidised tuition fees, a living allowance to help with daily expenses, and a book allowance to offset the cost of learning materials. To support their digital learning needs, students will also receive a one-time computer grant, while a travel stipend in Year 5 will help fund overseas elective opportunities, allowing them to gain valuable international clinical exposure as part of their medical education.

What does this recognition mean to our student awardees? Hear their perspectives:

“Receiving the scholarship is a vote of confidence as I enter the final two years of my MBBS journey. It allows me to focus more fully on my studies and professional development. Beyond the financial support, the scholarship is a reflection of LKCMedicine’s belief in its students and its commitment to helping us grow into the best doctors we can be.”
