TOP ACCOLADE FOR NTU AT TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION AWARDS ASIA

For its digital transformation and administrative reforms that aided the university’s timely COVID-19 response, as well as its bold and powerful commitment to a sustainable future, NTU Singapore was named the Leadership and Management Team of the Year, the top honour at this year’s Times Higher Education Awards Asia. In its fourth edition, this year’s Asia awards received nearly 500 submissions from 22 countries. NTU is among the 10 winners selected from a pool of 80 finalists across 10 categories.

Commending NTU for its “outstanding rate and quality of development in recent years”, the judges said the university has become “one of the global leaders” in the education sector. “NTU clearly showed that it is reflexively innovating in many areas. The pandemic has been handled well, and the innovations in teaching and learning are impressive,” they added.

 

LKCMEDICINE FACULTY NAMED IN ASIAN SCIENTIST 100 (2022 EDITION) LIST

Asian Scientist Magazine has published the seventh edition of the Asian Scientist 100 (2022 edition), an annual list of the region’s top scientific talent. Among them are NTU Professor Chen Xiaodong, who holds a joint appointment at LKCMedicine, and LKCMedicine Adjunct Professor Wang Linfa. To be included on the list, honorees must have been awarded a national or international prize in 2021. Alternatively, they must have achieved a significant accomplishment in scientific discovery or leadership that advances scientific enterprise. LKCMedicine Vice-Dean (Research) Professor Lim Kah Leong was named in the 2019 edition for his 2018 President’s Science Award (Team).

 

MINISTER CHAN CHUN SING CELEBRATES HARI RAYA WITH NTU STUDENTS

On 6 May, Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing met a group of Malay/Muslim students from NTU to celebrate Hari Raya. This was the first in-person Hari Raya celebration on campus in three years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the students who attended the event were those from LKCMedicine, who had been at our hospitals and polyclinics with doctors on the frontlines during the pandemic. The gathering also coincides with the end of examinations for some of the students. The LKCMedicine students who attended were M4 Muhammad Danish Bin Massuryono, Shirin Mehnaz Ansari and Muhammad Nasrullah Bin Shahrir and M2 Muhamed Shamir Jaffar Hussein. Topics discussed include future job outlook, the possibility of moving to open book exams for all schools, introducing climate change into the school curriculum, and taking leadership.

 

LKCMEDICINE PROFESSORS HONOURED FOR SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Two LKCMedicine professors were conferred the highest national orders by the French government for their excellent contributions to Singapore’s health research and COVID-19 response. Professor Laurent Rénia, Director of the Respiratory and Infectious Diseases Programme, was conferred the Knight of the French National Order of Merit. Professor Leo Yee Sin, Executive Director of the National Centre for Infectious Diseases and Adjunct Professor at LKCMedicine, was conferred the title of Knight of the French Order of the Legion of Honour. They received the awards from His Excellency Mr Marc Abensour, Ambassador of France to Singapore, at a ceremony held on 26 April.
