Editor's Corner: December 2022

Contributing to preventive care

By Kimberley Wang, Editor, The LKCMedicine

On 16 December, we marked the launch of the SG100K study, a landmark comprehensive population health study of 100,000 Singaporeans in collaboration with our partner healthcare institutions. We were honoured to have Minister for Health Mr Ong Ye Kung officially launch the SG100K study and enrol as a participant in support of this endeavour.

In this issue, we look at how the study will identify the social, environmental, lifestyle, and genetic factors associated with diseases prevalent in Singapore. This could pave the way for the development of better tools through precision medicine to predict and prevent chronic diseases among Singaporeans and other Asian populations.

We also hear from clinician-scientist Associate Professor Lim Su Chi, who was recently conferred the Dean’s Awards for Research, on the major healthcare “tsunamis” that we are facing. To round off the year, Chief Operating Officer Dr Serene Ng shares an insightful message on building resilience in a rapidly changing landscape.

Read all these and more in the latest issue of The LKCMedicine newsletter. Happy holidays!
