Assoc Prof J Patrick Williams from SSS@NTU's Sociology programme suggests that although online experiences differ from offline friendships, they hold more meaning and significance for some individuals. They cherish their online communities as much as their offline ones. This could be attributed to the ubiquity of digital platforms in Singapore, providing a space free from preconceived expectations. Additionally, Assoc Prof Williams believes that digital communities have the potential to change people's lives, depending on how they engage with them.
