Asst Prof Michael Yeo Receives GREAT Grant for UK Research Engagement

Asst Prof Michael Yeo (NTU History) has been awarded the Global Research Excellence Award for Travel (GREAT) grant, which supports NTU faculty in undertaking international research engagements that enhance the University’s global research profile.

As part of the grant, Asst Prof Yeo will travel to the UK in December 2026, where he will deliver an invited lecture at the World History Seminar Series at the University of Cambridge. His talk, “Between Sea and Jungle: Port Towns and the Making of North Borneo”, draws on his research interests in Southeast Asian history, urban and port-city history, and the histories of colonialism and empire.

The engagements will provide opportunities for Asst Prof Yeo to share his research with international academic communities and strengthen NTU’s research connections in the UK.
