Valerio Scarani
Valerio Scarani is principal investigator at the Centre for Quantum Technologies, serving as its Deputy Director, and professor at the Department of Physics, at the National University of Singapore. Born in Milan, he holds his degree and PhD from EPFL. He started working on theoretical quantum information in the year 2000, as a postdoc of Nicolas Gisin at the University of Geneva; he moved to NUS in 2007. After some early works in quantum cryptography, his expertise is mostly in Bell nonlocality, ranging from foundations to applications. He notably pioneered device-independent certification and introduced a criterion to rule out a large class of direct causation approaches to Bell correlations. Recently he has also explored the role of Bayes’ rule in quantum information.
Alexia Auffèves
Alexia Auffèves is a research director at CNRS and runs the international research unit MajuLab (Singapore). After an experimental PhD under the supervision of Prof. S. Haroche, she is recruited at CNRS in 2005 in Grenoble where she develops a research line around the theory of quantum optics and quantum thermodynamics. She promotes the physics-philosophy interface within the Grenoble centre for quantum science and technologies, which she runs between 2017 and 2022. In 2022, she launches the Quantum Energy Initiative (QEI), an interdisciplinary and international research community to understand the energetic footprint of emerging quantum technologies.

Alexander Blum
Alexander Blum studied physics and philosophy at the University of Leipzig, Michigan State University and the Technical University Munich. In 2009, he completed his PhD in theoretical particle physics at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg. He then retrained as a historian at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. From 2017 to 2025 he led a Max Planck research group at that institute, investigating the search for a final theory of physics, before joining Caltech in 2026. Blum has written and edited several books on the history of 20th century physics and is editor-in-chief of the European Physical Journal H.
