FlexiMasters (Micro-credentials) for Lifelong Learning and Career Growth
NTU launched the FlexiMasters in April 2020 as part of our commitment to equip graduates and working adults with future ready skills — backed by Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), subsidies of up to 90% for eligible Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. This innovative and flexible Continuing Education and Training (CET) initiative enables individuals to upskill at their own pace through modular courses, stacking toward a micro-credential, and transfer credits to a relevant NTU Master’s degree.
These programmes ranging approximately from 6 to 18 months in duration, and upon completion, the FlexiMasters certificate represents 50% of the academic load (15 AUs) of a full Master’s programme. The FlexiMasters curriculum specifically focuses on key global challenges, including:
- Mitigating our impact on the environment;
- Harnessing the science, art, and technology of learning;
- Addressing technology’s impact on humanity;
- Responding to the needs and challenges of healthy living and ageing.
Through continuous review of curriculum across our undergraduate, postgraduate, and CET levels, NTU remains dedicated to supporting learners and working professionals in embracing reskilling and upskilling opportunities to ensure future readiness.

While formal recognition of postgraduate education in the form of a Master’s or PhD degree may appeal to some, the majority of working professionals may prefer learning through standalone courses. These courses can be taken from NTU postgraduate (PG) degree programmes. Upon successful completion of each course, learners will earn a Statement of Accomplishment, which can be used to stack towards a Graduate Certificate and an NTU FlexiMasters. FlexiMasters will only be awarded to learners attaining a minimum of 15 Academic Units (AUs) with each course of minimum GPA 2.5 (which is equivalent to a letter grade of C+). However, some specialisation owners may recommend a higher Grade Point. Learners attaining a minimum of 6 to 9 AU with each course of minimum GPA 2.5 and above will be eligible for Graduate Certificate.
Credits earned in these courses may be recognised in its relevant Master’s programme, subject to prevailing University’s guidelines and approval. In addition, learners who wish to transfer their course credits into its relevant Master’s programme must ensure their credits meet the current University’s credit transfer policy as follows:
- The grade obtained for the course must be at least a C+, unless otherwise stated.
- The validity period for exemption/credit transfer of a course is 5 years from the date of award of the AUs as reflected in the official result slip/transcript.
- The course must not have been used for exemption/ credit transfer into another programme.
- Academic units from Graduate Certificates or FlexiMasters that are approved for transfer of credits will however not be included in the computation of CGPA for all graduate programmes.
