​Winners of the 2015 World Future Foundation (WFF) PhD Prize in Environmental and Sustainability Research

We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Natalia Yantara and Dr. Tan Hui Teng for winning the World Future Foundation PhD Prize in Environmental and Sustainability Research. Dr. Yantara was supervised by Prof. Subodh Mhaisalkar and her thesis title is ‘Modulating the Optical and Electrical Properties of Mesoscopic Solar Cells’. Dr. Tan was supervised by A/P Alex Yan and her thesis title is ‘Controlled Synthesis of Manganese-based Heterostructures for Supercapacitor Application’. 

The recipients of the award were selected based on relevance of research work and impact to environmental and sustainability research, quality of thesis (publications and patents), and a demonstrated passion for sustainability research. Dr. Yantara and Dr. Tan were among the 5 winners from NTU this year. They received their awards at the prize presentation ceremony earlier today.

 

The World Future Foundation (WFF) is passionate about sustainable development and believe that active research into new technologies and implementation of innovative solutions can alleviate the problems confronting the world today.  An incentive award for excellence in environmental and sustainability research, entitled ‘World Future Foundation PhD Prize in Environmental and Sustainability Research’, was the first of its kind to be awarded in Singapore. This is a unique honour, as this award is distinguished from other academic and literary prizes because of its multidisciplinary coverage. Each outstanding PhD thesis was awarded a sum of USD$10,000. This award is the foundation’s first step in establishing a long term partnership with NTU to groom future leaders in research and development.
