Winner of 2023 ASPIRE - Prof Liu Zheng
We are pleased to announce that Professor Liu Zheng has been awarded the 2023 APEC Science Prize for Innovation, Research and Education (ASPIRE).
This prestigious award recognises Prof Liu's exemplary commitment to excellence in scientific research and collaboration with scientists from other APEC member economies.
Prof Liu has been chosen as the winner from among 16 remarkable young scientists, each nominated for their outstanding work in scientific research under the 2023 ASPIRE theme "Inclusive Science, Technology, and Innovation for a Resilient and Sustainable
Environment".
As the winner of the 2023 ASPIRE Prize, Prof Liu will be conferred with a cash reward of USD 25,000 from ASPIRE Prize sponsors, Wiley and Elsevier, two of the world's leading publishers of scholarly scientific publications. He will also be recognised
at an award ceremony, which is scheduled to be held in-person in Seattle, USA, on 6 August 2023.

As a leading researcher in the field of 2D materials synthesis, engineering and applications, Prof Liu's groundbreaking research work has been instrumental in creating novel materials for high-performance electronics, electrocatalysts and photocatalysts, leading to significant advancements in various technological fields. His work has also demonstrated the potential for artificial intelligence to accelerate the growth of 2D materials and contribute to the fabrication of AI hardware. Prof Liu’s scientific contributions are recognised globally, earning him an excellent reputation and enabling him to emerge as a distinguished scholar in his own right.
