Winner for The Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition
We are pleased to announce that Ms Vidya Chamundeswari Narasimhan has emerged as the winner of the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition 2017. Vidya is a PhD student of Associate Professor Joachim Loo and conducts research on 3D biodegradable scaffolds for bone and cartilage tissue engineering. Her presentation topic for the competition was “Biodegradable scaffold systems for musculoskeletal tissue regeneration with sustained release of multiple bio-molecules”. During her lecture, Vidya discussed about fabricating dual and 3D scaffold systems with interconnected pores using the electrospinning process, which allows controlled drug release to meet the needs of bone and cartilage tissue regeneration.
Vidya came in 1st place at the Young Persons' Lecture Competition, Singapore in May 2017. As the winner of the local competition, she represented Singapore in the international competition which was held in Perth in October 2017.
About the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition
` has been organized annually by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining since 2005 with support from The Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers. The initiative invites students and professionals to deliver a short lecture on a subject related to materials, minerals, mining, packaging, clay technology and wood science.
