First runner-up of Young Persons' World Lecture Competition
We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Mr Kaushik Parida, who is a PhD student of Professor Lee Pooi See, for emerging as the first runner-up in the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition, which just concluded in Dublin, Ireland. He was pitted against 9 international finalists from various institutions around the world. Kaushik had won the first prize in the Young Persons’ Lecture Competition previously and hence represented Singapore in the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition.
During the competition, he delivered a lecture, entitled “Piezoelectric Energy Harvester - Converting Ambient Mechanical Energy to Electrical Energy”, which is related to his research work. He expounded on the tailoring of piezoelectric materials to enhance the energy harvesting performance in order to produce portable and effective electronic devices.

Sponsored by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), with support from The Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers, the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition invites students and professionals to deliver a short lecture on a subject related to materials, minerals, mining, packaging, clay technology and wood science.
