What will drive demand for electric cars?

We are pleased to share that Professor Subodh Mhaisalkar has been interviewed recently on Channel NewsAsia where he shared his thoughts on how to circumvent limitations to proliferate the usage of electric cars. Also the Associate Vice President (Strategy and Partnerships) and the Executive Director of the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), Professor Mhaisalkar feels that the issue of charging infrastructure is one which will be gradually resolved as more service providers jump on the bandwagon to deploy chargers island wide.

With regard to the high cost of electric cars, Professor Mhaisalkar believes that the cost will reduce and be on par with internal combustion engine cars within the next 5 – 7 years. This can be achieved with more efficient and low cost batteries when new research breakthroughs are translated to commercial products.
