Minor Programmes in NTU

Broaden your learning beyond your major with more than 45 Minor programmes available across NTU. A Minor allows you to develop additional knowledge and skills in a complementary area of study.

To graduate with a Minor, students must declare their intention and apply for the award upon fulfilling all programme requirements.



Minor in Sustainable Urban Planning

About

The Minor in Sustainable Urban Planning introduces students to the principles and practices of planning sustainable, resilient, and liveable cities. The programme equips students with knowledge in urban planning, infrastructure development, and environmental sustainability, preparing them to contribute to the future of urban environments.


Eligible Students

The Minor is open to students from all NTU programmes, except:

  • Students enrolled in the Second Major in Society and Urban Systems
  • Civil Engineering admitted to:
    • Year 1 in AY 2020-21 and earlier
    • Year 2 in AY 2021-22 and earlier
  • Environmental Engineering admitted to:
    • Year 1 in AY 2020-21 and earlier
    • Year 2 in AY 2021-22 and earlier

Academic Requirements

Students will be awarded the Minor in Sustainable Urban Planning upon successful completion of 15 AU, comprising the following five courses.

SU2001 Urban Planning & Design 3 AU
SU3001 Integrated Urban Management 3 AU
SU4001 Leaders in Urban System & Policy 3 AU
EM5109 Environmental Issues and Sustainability 3 AU
CV5101 Sustainable Built Environment 3 AU

Course Flexibility

Even if you do not intend to complete the Minor, you may still take individual Minor courses to fulfil the Broadening and Deepening Elective (BDE) requirements of your degree programme.

Flexible Grading Option (FGO)

FGO can be applied to courses that count towards the fulfilment of the minor programme.

However, students shall take note of the grading requirement:

  • For students admitted in AY2020-2021 and earlier, and students admitted directly to Year 2 in AY2021-2022:
    FGO-declared courses cannot be counted towards the fulfilment of the minor programme.
  • For students admitted to Year 1 in AY2021-2022 and all students admitted from AY2022-2023 and onwards:
    • Minor: Up to 6 AU of courses can be non-letter graded, which can include courses declared for FGO.

For Students Enrolled in the Second Major in Society and Urban Systems

Although this Minor is not available to students enrolled in the Second Major in Society and Urban Systems, the following courses may be taken to fulfil the BDE requirements of their degree programme:
