Nanyang Assistant Professor Phillip Grant Named Among Asia Pacific’s Innovators Under 35 by MIT Technology Review
Congratulations to Nanyang Assistant Professor Phillip Grant from the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB), NTU, for being recognised as one of the Asia Pacific Innovators Under 35 by MIT Technology Review!

The “Innovators Under 35” (TR35) list, launched in 1999 to
mark MIT Technology Review’s centennial, celebrates young trailblazers
who are transforming industries and shaping the future through science and
technology. Since its launch in the Asia Pacific region in 2014, TR35 has
spotlighted exceptional researchers, entrepreneurs, and visionaries whose work
is driving innovation across borders.
About Asst Prof Phillip Grant
Asst Prof Grant leads a cutting-edge research group at NTU
dedicated to creating innovative synthetic methods for bioactive small
molecules. He completed his PhD in 2020 under Distinguished Professor Dame
Margaret Brimble and Dr Daniel Furkert at the University of Auckland, New
Zealand, and later worked as a Lise Meitner Postdoctoral Fellow with Prof Nuno
Maulide on chemoenzymatic total synthesis. In 2023, he began his independent
academic career at NTU under the Nanyang Assistant Professorship scheme, continuing
to push the boundaries of modern chemistry.
This year, Asst Prof Grant joins the ranks of global changemakers as one of the Visionaries, a category that recognises individuals who redefine what’s possible through groundbreaking ideas. His work focuses on developing new chemical reactions that make it easier to build complex molecules with unprecedented precision and sustainability — paving the way for advances in medicine and green chemistry.
