 Major Requirements

The Major Requirements for Public Policy and Global Affairs Major consists of 3 components:

  • Public Policy and Global Affairs Core Courses (32 AUs)
  • Public Policy and Global Affairs Prescribed Electives (37 AUs)
  • Graduation Project (FYP/GP) (8 AUs)​​


Requirements of the Public Policy and Global Affairs Major:

A1. Public Policy and Global Affair Core (Compulsory) Courses

  • HA4099 Graduation Project

Students  must choose 11 electives (with a minimum of 37 AUs) from the wide range of Public Policy and Global Affairs Prescribed Electives. 4 of the 11 electives must be from level-4000. 

Notes:

  1. It is recommended that students take an average of 3 PPGA courses every semester.
  2. We strongly encourage students to complete their Core Courses (1000-level courses) first before attempting the prescribed electives (3000- and 4000-level courses). 
  3. Students need complete PPGA core and 11 PPGA major prescribed electives (MPEs) before doing FYP. A minimum CGPA of 3.9 must be attained to be eligible.
  4. The maximum load for PPGA year 1 students is 16 AUs (5 courses), for year 2-4 students is 18 AUs (6 courses). Students are allowed to overload one course if their CGPA is 4.5 and above, but not in the first semester for year 1 students.​

Students are strongly encouraged to read the Core Courses as soon as they are offered. Please do not delay the reading of Core Courses because these Core Courses may be the pre-requisite for some courses offered in future semesters. A failure to clear the Core Courses as early as possible will impose restrictions in the choice of courses in future semester.

    • There are no restrictions on the selection of courses to make up unrestricted electives. Students can choose any of the following:

  • Complete a Minor in another discipline.
  • Earn AUs under an International Exchange programme.
  • Earn AUs under the optional Professional Attachment programme offered under SSS.
  • Any course offered by any School as long as the pre-requisites are satisfied.
