Dr Francesco featured in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung

The Neue Zürcher Zeitung, one of the preeminent news sources in Switzerland in German, has recently published an article celebrating the bicentenary (1822 - 2022) of the decipherment of the Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs by Champollion. The discussion was on writing systems which are still undeciphered and people who are trying to decipher them, and they chose Linear A.

In the article, besides a team from Cambridge, Dr Francesco Perono Cacciafoco (Senior Lecturer from Linguistics and Multilingual Studies) was the only scholar (with NTU) mentioned, for his cryptanalytic project on the decipherment of Linear A (a computational 'brute force attack' to the writing system), with a precise explanation of his approach.

The article, being about an important anniversary (the decipherment of Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs) and being published on the main newspaper of Switzerland, is an honour for us. Congratulations Dr Francesco!
