In Memoriam: Professor John Miksic, a Titan of Singaporean Archaeology
We mourn the passing of Professor John Miksic, a foundational figure in the understanding of Singapore's history, who passed away on October 25 at age 79.
An emeritus professor at NUS and a senior research fellow at NTU, Professor Miksic conducted Singapore’s first archaeological dig at Fort Canning in 1984. His work unearthed Singapore’s pre-1819 history, reshaping our national narrative and curriculum. A devoted scholar and mentor, he continued inspiring students until his final days.
Awarded the 2023 Public Service Medal, his legacy is etched into our heritage landscape. Our deepest condolences to his wife, Assoc Prof Goh Geok Yian, and his family.
