2026-03-26 QS Story

The latest QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2026 show significant progress across several disciplines.

Linguistics climbed 14 places to rank 13th globally, while Philosophy made a dramatic leap from position 109 to 33rd.  English Language and Literature ranks 36th globally, and Modern Languages is at 51st, keeping both subjects among the world's top programmes despite minor shifts from 2025. Art History also improved, moving from 42nd to the 26-50 range, and History remained steady within 51-100.

With these results, we now have four subjects ranked among the global top 50: Linguistics (13th), Philosophy (33rd), English Language and Literature (36th), and Art History (26-50 band).

The 2026 edition is the largest to date, featuring over 1,900 institutions. These results highlight our continued strength in the humanities, with notable gains underscoring our commitment to academic excellence, alongside enduring global recognition for our language and literature programs. We look forward to building on this momentum in the years ahead. Full details are available on the QS Top Universities website.
