​Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong posted on social media his thoughts on the May Fourth Movement, which sees its 100th anniversary this year. Yow Cheun Hoe, head of Chinese Programme at NTU, said the overall significance of the May Fourth Movement is that it embodies nationalism, which was not present before 1919. The whole cultural circle in Singapore and the Malay Peninsula was affected by the movement and also moved toward a greater consciousness of the Chinese citizen identity.
