The first batch of graduates from NTU’s LKCMedicine includes Ang Jia Wei. Jia Wei, who has done well, won the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal and Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award. While in university, Jia Wei would befriend terminally ill patients at Dover Park Hospice. She also spent time in foreign worker dormitories to understand the lives of migrant workers. "They may not be able to receive the treatment they deserve because they don’t have enough money or insurance. I hope the data I have collected can help impact government policies to help these migrant workers,” she said. Another Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal winner is Amber Tan, who will graduate from the Renaissance Engineering Programme. When she was young, Amber’s parents moved to China to provide medical services for the poor. Amber hopes to make a difference in people’s lives, just like her father, who is a doctor. “My father said that anyone can help others, as long as he/ she has the heart to.” This year, NTU welcomed its first batch of graduates from the MBBS, Environmental Earth Systems Science, Philosophy programmes, and from the Master of Arts in Professional Education (Training & Development).
