​News | From New Literature to Singaporean Chinese Literature, seven fables of Chinese diaspora writers since May Fourth Movement

​Assoc Prof Yow Cheun Hoe, head of NTU’s Chinese Division wrote an article commenting about the development of Chinese language and literature in Singapore since the May Fourth Movement hundred years ago. Yow picked seven literary works written by Chinese diaspora that represent each era to reconstruct the history of Singapore Chinese literature. One of them was Yeng Pway Ngon’s ‘A Man Like Me’, a novel reflecting the decline of Chinese education in Singapore. It was written at the time when the bilingual policy was introduced.
