​News | Belgium’s Chinese immigrants integrate into the city through chips culture

​Asst Prof Els van Dongen from NTU Singapore’s history programme conducted a field survey of “Chinese” chips shops in Belgium from 2014 to 2017 to find out how they had won the acceptance of the public. The Chinese immigrants had leveraged on their integration capital which consisted of language abilities, cultural capital, citizen status or permanent residency status, family network and market experience. Her study was first published in the journal Ethnic and Racial Studies in Nov 2018.
