Sangyop Lee received his BA from the Department of Philosophy at Seoul National University with the thesis "A Comparative Analysis of the Fanwang jing Bodhisattva Precepts and the Yogācāra Bodhisattva Precepts," and his MA from the same department with the thesis "A Study of the Theory of the Imperishable Soul." His research interest includes social and intellectual history of early Chinese Buddhism, with an emphasis on Lushan Huiyuan and the Buddhist community on Mount Lu, the problem of "Sinification" of Buddhism, interaction between East Asian Buddhist traditions, and bodhisattva precepts in India and China.
