Event write-upOn August 30th, the inaugural session of the Literature Faculty Seminar Singapore was held at SoH. This new biannual series of seminars brings together literature scholars and students from across Singapore and features cutting-edge literary research from the island's higher education institutions. The theme for the well attended first session was "Global Literature in a Global City." Nienke Boer of Yale-NUS spoke on travel writing produced by Boer prisoners of war sent to Sri Lanka by the British at the turn of the twentieth century. Kevin Riordan spoke on Jules Verne, the portable printing press, and the emergence of world literature. The Seminar will reconvene at either NUS or Yale-NUS in Semester 2, 18-19.
