​CoHASS Building renamed Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) Building

The College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CoHASS) Building was renamed the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) building on 19 October 2019 in recognition of the SHHK’s significant contribution in Singapore’s nation building and educational development.

In 1953, SHHK donated more than 200 hectares of land to establish Nanyang University – the grounds of which the NTU campus sits today. 

The plaque unveiling ceremony was officiated by Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education, and observed by NTU Pro-Chancellor Jennie Chua and members of the NTU Board of Trustees, NTU President Subra Suresh, SHHK Immediate Past President Dr Chua Thian Poh, SHHK President Tan Cheng Gay, and guests.

Alongside the renaming of the building, the road next to the Chinese Heritage Centre (the old Nanyang University Administration Building) was renamed Tan Lark Sye Walk.
