| Event write-up | Lexicography's essences lie in its definitions. The definition of the verbs affects the usage of the verbs greatly. In the current seventh edition, the Modern Chinese Dictionary. The editors effort spent on the definition of the verbs showed remarkable results, especially in the improvement of the lexicography usage scientifically. However, the current lexicography, including the Modern Chinese Dictionary, do have many problems in definition, mainly in 1, the lack and error in define. 2, the wrong usage of syntax into a certain function word. 3. Wrongly or inaccurately express. 4, did not include the latest academic result. Furthermore, there is a lack of a book on lexicography book that caters to teaching Chinese as second language. |

| Speaker profile/s (if any) | Professor Ma Zhen born in Sichuan China in 1938. She went to the Chinese faculty in Peking University in 1955, graduated in 1960 and has been teaching there since. She is currently retired. Her research focused in modern Chinese language, especially in the teachings and researches of function words. Some of her publications includes: Concise Practical Chinese Grammar (1981), The Research Methodology of Function Words in Modern Chinese (2004), and involves in the editing of 12 reading materials and books, and she also published more than 50 academic articles. She is academically well-known for making important contributions to the research in the Function words in Modern Chinese. |
