| Event Write-up | The year 2016 marks the centennial birthday of Nanyang University alumna, Madam Han Suyin. In commemoration of Madam Han’s remarkable contributions to Sino-Western cultural exchange, Associate Professor I Lo-fen and Dr Cui Feng from Chinese Programme, Nanyang Technology University jointly edited the Han Suyin Centennial Memorial Collection. The book has been published by the Global Publishing with the support of the Han Suyin Scholarship Fund (in Translation Studies), School of Humanities, Nanyang Technology University. The book comprises two main sections. The first section presents research articles about Madam Han Suyin, centering on the topics of translation, culture, and politics. The second section comprises translations of Madam Han Suyin’s works, contributed by three awardees of the Han Suyin Scholarship Fund (in Translation Studies). The translated works reflect Madam Han Suyin’s personal memories of China and its leaders, her views on Sino-Western relations and African socio-political issues, as well as her vision for the development of Southeast Asian literature. |
