| Event write-up | Over the past decade, Professor Shen has interviewed Gao Xingjian(高行健) and more than 30 people related to him, including his family members, teachers, classmates, and friends. By obtaining relevant documents, Prof Shen has a clearer understanding of Gao Xingjian's life, which allows better comprehension of his writing. In addition, Prof Shen plans to embark on the journey which follows the path of the main character “I” in Gao Xingjian’s novel Ling Shan(《灵山》), to learn about the literature experiences and inspiration of life. |
| Speaker (s) | 沈卫威教授 Professor Shen Weiwei School of Liberal Arts, Nanjing University Professor Shen Weiwei was born in Henan, China and received his Ph.D from Nanjing University. He taught at Henan University from 1991 to 2001, and joined Nanjing University in January 2002. His research interests include modern Chinese literature, biography writing, and higher education of modern China. He is the author of more than ten scholarly books, including: A Biography of Hu Shih(《胡适传》); A Biography of Mao Dun(《茅盾传》); A Biography of Wu Mi(《吴宓传》); A Biography of Gao Xingjian(《望南看北斗:高行健》); An Examination of Exile Literature of Northeast China(《东北流亡文学史论》); In Defense of Liberty: An Introduction to Hu Shih’s Intellectual Community(《自由守望:胡适派文人引论》); Looking at the Xueheng School: Modern Fate of Cultural Conservatism(《回眸“学衡派”:文化保守主义的现代命运》); The Genealogy of Xueheng School: History and Narrative(《“学衡派”谱系:历史与叙事》); The Greatness of University(《大学之大》); The Grand Cities besides the Great River: Modern Thought and Celebrities(《大河之旁必有大城:现代思潮与人物》). |
