Enhancing Adult Education Through PILATE: Practical Introduction to Learning For Adult Trainers and Educators (Classroom, Synchronous and Asynchronous E-Learning)
Enhancing Adult Education Through PILATE: Practical Introduction to Learning for Adult Trainers and Educators provides a collegial learning environment for CET instructors to strengthen their understanding of learning and teaching across diverse learner profiles and professional contexts. Participants design purposeful learning outcomes and apply constructive alignment to ensure coherence between outcomes, learning activities, and assessment. Through practice-based discussion, peer exchange, and reflection grounded in their own teaching settings, participants develop the capacity to make responsive instructional decisions, facilitate meaningful learning interactions, and continuously refine their approaches in evolving CET environments.
PILATE supports Staff Continuous Learning for CET instructors by strengthening teaching effectiveness through Learning Needs Analysis, Data Collection and Analysis, and strategic instructional improvement. It focuses on Content Development and Strategy to design aligned learning outcomes, activities, and assessments, while enhancing Trainer and Assessor Development Management through reflection, evidence-based evaluation, and continuous improvement across CET settings.By the end of this program, participants should be able to:

- Use learning activities and assessment strategies to promote learner engagement and learning

Pre-requisite: This course is only available for NTU adjunct trainers who are delivering funded programmes.
This course is intended for Teaching and Training Professionals, Instructional Designers and Technologist, Training Manager, CET instructors and trainers who teach or support learning in adult and professional education contexts.

 | Dr Sophia Tan Deputy Director of Teaching, Learning and Pedagogy (TLP) under Institute for Pedagogical Innovation, Research and Excellence (InsPIRE) Nanyang Technological University With over 20 years of work experience in higher education settings overseas and in Singapore, she has deepened her knowledge in the field of teaching and learning. Prior to joining InsPIRE-TLP, Sophia served as a professor of Educational Technology, shaping the minds of pre-service teachers. Additionally, she has provided consulting services to schools and administrators and conducted workshops and seminars to support their professional development. Sophia holds a PhD in Learning, Technology, and Culture, and is passionate about sharing her love for teaching and scholarship with faculty and students alike. |
 | Ms Jeanette Choy Senior Assistant Director of Teaching, Learning and Pedagogy (TLP) under Institute for Pedagogical Innovation, Research and Excellence (InsPIRE) Nanyang Technological University Jeanette Choy works with university educators to design and strengthen their teaching through practical, evidence-informed approaches. With over 18 years of experience in faculty development across Singapore’s higher education sector, her focus areas include course and assessment design, constructive alignment, and inquiry-based learning. She also supports Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) work by advising on study design, evaluation, and dissemination. Her research has explored students’ learning processes, blended learning, and learning communities for academic development. She holds a Master of Arts in Instructional Design and Technology. |
