Overview
Learn more about AdmissionsThe National Institute of Education, Singapore, offers high quality and rigorous graduate programmes that will challenge your thinking, develop your skills and boost your career prospects. With a long tradition of innovation in teacher education, our graduate programmes have contributed to the academic and professional development of thousands of educators in Singapore. We are also seeing an increasing number of other professionals and international students joining our alumni each year.
The four categories of graduate programmes offered at NIE are:
- Master's by Coursework (M.A., M.Sc, and M.Ed)
- PhD and Master's by Research (Ph.D., M.A. and M.Sc.)
- Doctor in Education (Ed.D)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
In line with SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) initiative, we also offer modular graduate courses that can be taken as standalone courses that are stackable towards a postgraduate micro-credential, the NTU FlexiMasters. Individuals also have the option of progressing to a Master's progamme upon completion of these courses. More information can be found here.
In addition, the Graduate Research and Academic Development (GRAD) centre is set up to help graduate students develop their research and academic skills, which include writing, statistical analysis, oral presentation, literature search and other areas of graduate learning. For more information about the activities organised by the GRAD centre, please click here.
For graduate students thinking of switching careers, the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programmes aim to prepare university graduates to become primary, secondary school and junior college teachers. Student teachers in the PGDE (Primary) and PGDE (Secondary) tracks will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to teach two school subjects (or one in the case of single-subject specialists). Those in the PGDE (Junior College) track will be equipped to teach one subject at the JC level and one at the Secondary level; except for Economics and General Paper, the junior college teaching subject and its paired secondary level teaching subject are related.
Please visit Postgraduate Diploma in Education for intake information.
Scholarships and Awards
A number of scholarships and grants are available to new and existing students in NIE. Please note that the University does not provide any assistance towards all travels or other costs nor does it guarantee employment to scholars on the successful completion of their degree candidature.
