LKCMedicine Open House a big hit with prospective university students
More than 13,000 aspiring university students keen to learn more about NTU and its schools headed to the
university’s main campus on Saturday, 3 March, for the university-wide Open House. A must-visit for some 1,000 students and their parents was LKCMedicine’s Experimental Medicine Building, where a range of activities awaited them.
A good starting point for those new to the School was the talk on LKCMedicine’s innovative medical education. The talk, which was given three times over the course of the day by Assistant Dean for Year 4 & Family Medicine Associate Professor Wong Teck Yee and Vice-Dean for Clinical Affairs Professor Pang Weng Sun, offered an overview of the curriculum and admissions process.
Delivered alongside LKCMedicine students, these sessions attracted full-house audiences and ended in lively Q&A exchanges. For those keen to try their hand at the School’s innovative pedagogy, Team-Based Learning demos complete with iPads were on offer in the seminar room immediately after the talks.
More hands-on activities were on show in the teaching lab, where visitors could try out some of the typical experiments LKCMedicine students tackle during their science practicals.
Visitors could also explore the intricate structures that make up the human body and observe human anatomy ‘live’ using ultrasound. Manned by enthusiastic LKCMedicine students, who were supported by faculty and teaching staff, visitors left with a better understanding of how LKCMedicine students learn.
Between talks, regular tours offered visitors a peek into life as a student. Info booths and a showcase of student life inside and outside the classroom on Level 3 complemented the tours.
Adding to the fun, prospective students were encouraged to complete a light-hearted quiz to help them explore whether LKCMedicine is the right fit for them (you can do the quiz here).
These hands-on activities complemented the goings-on at the School’s main booth at the School of Biological Sciences that was packed with visitors throughout the day, attracted by NTU’s continued rise through international rankings.
