CEE PhD student receives 2nd runner-up best paper award

The School is pleased to announce that Liu Xibing, a CEE PhD student, received the Second Runner-Up Best Paper Award at the 1st International Conference of Maritime Transportation and Innovation (ICMTI) and the 4th International Conference on Transport and Supply Chain Resilience and Digital Transformation (TSCRDT).

Held in London and Liverpool, United Kingdom, from 26 to 29 August 2026, the conference brought together academics, researchers, industry professionals and practitioners to discuss emerging developments in maritime transportation, shipping, ports, logistics and supply chain resilience.

At the conference, Xibing delivered a presentation titled "Assessing Cybersecurity Resilience in Digital Ports: A Bayesian Network-FAIR Integrated Framework." The study combines Bayesian Networks with the Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR) framework to examine interdependent cybersecurity vulnerabilities in digital ports and quantify cyber risks to support resilience-oriented decision-making.

Reflecting on the experience, Xibing said: “Participating in the 1st ICMTI and 4th TSCRDT was a valuable opportunity to present my research to the international maritime research community and receive feedback from scholars across maritime resilience and digital transformation. The discussions and networking sessions provided new perspectives on how cybersecurity research can relate to operational resilience and wider transport systems. Receiving the Second Runner-Up Best Paper Award was especially encouraging and strengthened my motivation to continue developing this research.

The conference was also attended by Associate Professor Yuen Kum Fai and Dr Wang Nanxi, a Research Fellow.

Assoc Prof Yuen served on the conference scientific committee and delivered a plenary presentation titled "Safety 4.0: Advancing AI-Driven Ship Safety Management through Behavioural and Data-Driven Approaches". His presentation explored how artificial intelligence, behavioural insights and data-driven approaches can support the development of more proactive and intelligent maritime safety management systems.

Dr Wang presented "Quantifying Food Supply Chain Resilience of Import-Dependent Nations Using Bayesian Networks: Insights from Singapore", which examined how Bayesian modelling can support the quantitative assessment of supply chain vulnerabilities and resilience.
