Gain real-world industry experience while completing your degree

The SkillsFuture Work-Study Degree (WSDeg) programme is designed to better prepare students for the workplace by combining academic learning with meaningful industry experience. Through structured on-the-job training with industry partners, students gain first-hand exposure to real working environments, develop practical skills, and deepen their understanding of industry practices.

Over the course of the programme, students take part in multiple industry attachments, allowing them to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world projects. This experience culminates in an industry-linked Final Year Project, helping graduates build strong professional capabilities and transition confidently into their careers.

Programme Structure

The Work-Study Degree integrates academic learning with structured industry attachments, spanning approximately 54 weeks of on-the-job training across 4 years.

Year 1

Foundation Stage

  • Semester 1: Coursework (CW)

Year 2

Discovery / Exploratory Stage

  • Semester 1: Coursework (CW)
  • Semester 2: Coursework (CW)
  • Work Term 1 (10 weeks)

Year 3

Industry Immersion

  • Work Term 2 (20 weeks)
  • Semester 2: Coursework (CW)
  • Work Term 3 (11 weeks)

Year 4

Deepening & Work-Ready Stage

  • Semester 1: FYP + Coursework
  • Work Term 4 (5 weeks)
  • Semester 2: FYP + Coursework

  • Work Term 1: PA (10 weeks in Year 2 Special Semester from May to Jul; 5 AU)
  • Work Term 2: PI (20 weeks in Year 3, Semester 2 from Jan to May; 10 AU)
  • Work Term 3: PA (11 weeks in Year 3 Special Semester from May to Jul; 5 AU)
  • Work Term 4: PA Winter (5 weeks in Year 4 Winter from Dec to Jan; 3 AU)
  • Final Year Project (FYP): 40 weeks in Year 4 (Semesters 1 & 2, minimum 8 hours/week; 8 AU)
Note:
  • Student may choose to stay with the same company for both Work Term 1 and 2, or select a different company for each Work Term.
  • For Work Term 3, student are expected to commit to one of the companies he/she have engaged with in earlier work terms (either Work Term 1 and/or 2).
  • The AU for the 3 PA in Work Term 1, 3 and 4 will be drawn from students' Broadening & Deepening Electives (BDE). Interested students should plan their studies accordingly to free up 13 AU of BDE for the 3 PA.

The tuition fees for the WSDeg are pegged to those of the corresponding programmes:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Engineering
