Global Voices on Coastal Resilience

We were heartened to welcome over 300 participants to the recent seminar, "Protecting our Shores: International Perspectives on Coastal Resilience", which brought together international experts to showcase diverse approaches and strategies for coastal and flood resilience.

The event opened with a warm welcome by Professor Warren C. W. Chan, Dean of the College of Engineering, and Ms. Hazel Khoo, Director of the Coastal Protection Department, PUB.

A highlight of the seminar was the insightful sharing delivered by the distinguished speakers:

  • Professor Bas Jonkman (Professor of Hydraulic Engineering, Delft University of Technology)
  • Professor David Balmforth (Visiting Professor, Faculty of Engineering, Imperial College London)
  • Dr. Jane Smith (Research Professor, University of Florida)
  • Professor Tomoya Shibayama (Institute Professor Research and Development Initiative, Chuo University, Tokyo, Japan)

The panel discussion, moderated by Professor Yong Kwet Yew, Emeritus Professor from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NUS, provided a platform for an exchange regarding the challenges and future of coastal resilience.

We extend our sincere thanks to our partners, PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, and Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute (CFI) Singapore, for their invaluable support in making this seminar an impactful event.
