Chemistry is a versatile discipline that prepares students for a wide variety of careers in pharmaceutical, petrochemical, food, cosmetics, materials, and other industries, as well as professional occupations in education, government policy, and consulting.
The Division of Chemistry and Biological Chemistry offers a variety of undergraduate programmes. Our courses are taught by faculty members who are passionate about teaching, supported by state-of-the-art teaching facilities, laboratories, and advanced instrument facilities.
Our programmes begin with the fundamentals of modern chemistry, including organic and biological chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, and forensic science. Students go on to study advanced topics such as organometallic chemistry, spectroscopy, green chemistry, and drug design. In each year of study, students have the opportunity to do a research project to hone their creativity and explore cutting-edge scientific topics. Final year students have the opportunity to do a final-year research project under the supervision of a faculty member, or undertake a professional internship in the chemical sector to get a head-start in employment.
The technical knowledge I learnt in the Chemistry and Biological Chemistry programme allowed me to engage with startups at a different level altogether. It allows me to understand exactly how high-tech startups are trying to change the world.”
