This 4-year degree offers broad-based training in biological sciences and prepares graduates for challenging careers in Life Sciences research and industry. It provides a strong foundation in biological sciences that can include technology and business elements.

The study of biology is highly relevant to everyday life. At some point, we discovered that we are fascinated by living systems. As the knowledge base in the biological sciences grows exponentially and technology becomes ever more sophisticated, the ability to think broadly about biology and to apply your knowledge across boundaries of disciplines will inevitably become a very valuable and powerful asset both in the scientific environment and many walks of life.

At least H1/SL or equivalent pass in Mathematics and a good H2/HL/A Level or equivalent pass in Physics, Chemistry or Biology.

This is a full time four-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biological Science programme.

During the period of study for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, a student must pursue such courses of study as may be prescribed by Regulations made by the Academic Board on the recommendation of the School of Biological Sciences.

For successful completion of the programme, students are required to fulfil the following requirements:

  1. For students admitted
    1. ​To the First Year of the programme:
      • AY2018 and onwards: To obtain a total of not less than 131 academic units within the maximum period permitted, unless a candidate has been granted exemption by the School from taking certain courses, on a case-by-case basis.
      • AY2017 and before: To obtain a total of not less than 132 academic units within the maximum period permitted, unless a candidate has been granted exemption by the School from taking certain courses, on a case-by-case basis.
    2. For students admitted directly to the Second Year of the programme:
      • AY2019 and AY2020: To obtain a total of not less than 101 academic units within the maximum period permitted, unless a candidate has been granted exemption by the School from taking certain courses, on a case-by-case basis.
      • AY2018 and before: To obtain a total of not less than 99 academic units within the maximum period permitted, unless a candidate has been granted exemption by the School from taking certain courses, on a case-by-case basis.
  2. To have gained a pass grade in all the major and general education requirement courses as determined by the School of Biological Sciences; and
  3. Fulfilled other such requirements as maybe prescribed by the Academic Board.
