Reports featured the recent heatwaves happening around the world due to the high pressure system called Azores high, which usually sits off the coast of Spain that is causing the heatwave. Dr Wang Jingyu said that climate change has increased the frequency of an "extremely large" Azores High occurring — from once every 10 years in the pre-industrial period to once every four years in the 21st century. He continued sharing that "The main reason for the heatwaves that prevail is the abnormal expansion and intensification of high-pressure systems"
