Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony between Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), National Institute of Education (NIE) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

On 1 September 2022, the signing of the Education Research Collaboration Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (ERCP MOU) between the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), took place at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore.

The ERCP MOU was signed by Professor Lim Keng Hui, Assistant Chief Executive of the Science and Engineering Research Council at A*STAR, Professor Louis Phee, Dean of the College of Engineering at NTU and Professor Christine Goh, Director NIE. The signing ceremony was attended by key appointment holders from the three research entities – A*STAR’s Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) and Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), NIE’s Science of Learning in Education Centre, and NTU’s School of Computer Science and Engineering.

The collaboration between the three research entities started with ground-up initiatives two years ago. Researchers from A*STAR, NIE and NTU started conversations on these emerging areas of research in the form of webinars, workshops and grant call submissions. The signing of the ERCP MOU is a formal expression of commitment towards informing pedagogy and learning through the potential we found in Science of Learning in Education and Artificial Intelligence for Education.

Being highly regarded in their own respective fields, specifically in the field of social sciences, education and technology, the signing of the MOU marks the start of a new chapter for greater synergy between the three entities. NIE is honoured to be part of the effort in promoting joint research, enabling research exchange programmes, and galvanising research grant proposals with high-impact interdisciplinary research to address humanity’s grand challenges.
