Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering

Master (Coursework)

Programme Type

Full-time, Part-time

The Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering is offered in NTU and is intended to equip students with the latest postgraduate level knowledge in materials science and engineering.

This programme will use the latest online learning tools and the students can select any combination of these courses [with conventional face-to-face courses available] to make up to 30 AUs through the wide selection of courses offered in the curriculum.

The students must fulfil a minimum 30 academic units (AUs) and attain a minimum CGPA of 2.5, which will then subsequently lead to a Master of Science degree.

Have a good Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent in a related discipline.

Good polytechnic qualifications in materials science and engineering or closely related major with a substantial number of years of relevant work experience.

For applicants whose native language is not English, TOEFL/IELTS score is to be submitted with the application for admission.
Minimum Score Required
(Test dates must be within 2 years or less from the date of application)
TOEFL iBT
≥ 85 (internet-based)
OR
IELTS

MSE offers two niche specialisations that allow students to pursue deeper expertise in a chosen area, adding value to their degree.

Students may opt into a specialisation track either at the start of the programme or during the stipulated course registration period. Those who choose not to take a specialisation will graduate with a general MSc (Materials Science and Engineering) degree. Specialisation is optional and not a programme requirement.

These specialisations will be available to students admitted from August 2026 Intake (AY2026/2027 Semester 1) onwards. Please note that specialisation is not mandatory.

    Academic Pathways

Default route - MSc students will be enrolled into coursework study option by default (General Electives: 30 AUs).

    Opt-in routes – (Optional)

Specialisation study option - MSc students may opt-in to pursue specialisation by choosing either NanoMaterials or Sustainable Materials during the course registration period. Please note that (General Electives: 18 AUs + Specialisation Electives: 12 AUs)
