​Three LKCMedicine faculty members receive Nanyang Awards

At NTU President and Distinguished Professor Subra Suresh's second State of the University address today in the Nanyang Auditorium on the main campus, three faculty members of LKCMedicine received Nanyang Education Awards. The NTU Nanyang Awards are given to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of faculty, staff and students in service, teaching, research, innovation and entrepreneurship, and humanitarian work.

The Education Awards were conferred on three faculty, one at the College level and two at the School level.

The sole LKCMedicine recipient of the Nanyang Education Award (College) is Head of Anatomy Assistant Professor Sreenivasulu Reddy Mogali. This is Asst Prof Reddy's second Nanyang Education Award — he received the School-level award in 2016. Asst Prof Reddy's passion for teaching, and anatomy education in particular, has seen him make important contributions throughout his career with published work in peer-review journals, as well as winning prizes for his presentations at scientific conferences. His keen interest in developing innovative anatomy teaching drives his research into 3D-printed anatomical models, augmented reality and virtual reality models, and student-centred learning.

After receiving his award, Asst Prof Reddy said, "I'm really honoured to receive this award. I would like to thank my students, my colleagues and senior management for supporting me and supporting innovative education in anatomy." On winning the College-level Nanyang Education Award, Asst Prof Reddy is also inducted as a lifelong Fellow of the Teaching Excellence Academy at NTU.

Associate Professor Lim Poh Lian, a clinical-educator, received the Nanyang Education Award (School-level). A/Prof Lim is currently a senior consultant in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. Her clinical research interests are in emerging and general infections, travel and tropical medicine and HIV medicine. She said, "A doctor is fundamentally a teacher. You've got to work hard, think clearly and care deeply — there's no substitute for these in order to excel as a medical student, a doctor or a teacher."

Senior Lecturer Dr Lucy Victoria Rosby has a clinical background in surgery with a passion for medical education and research. At LKCMedicine, she teaches anatomy and clinical communication supervises feedback and curriculum review teams as Lead for Curriculum Review. "I'm proud to receive this award. Huge thanks to the students for the opportunity to teach them and to drive my passion for education. Thanks to the senior management for their support during my time at LKCMedicine. Today marks my fifth year exactly in Singapore, when I began my journey in LKCMedicine. It's a very special day today," she said.

The School's senior management team — LKCMedicine Dean Professor James Best, Vice-Dean for Education Professor Naomi Low-Beer and Vice-Dean for Faculty Affairs Professor Michael Ferenczi — also congratulated the winners.

"So proud that our faculty has won these education awards. I think it's well justified because of their commitment to the excellence of education at LKCMedicine. It's so important for educators to go the extra mile and be recognised. I think this will encourage all the others as well and those who benefit the most, will be our students," said Prof Low-Beer.

"I'm excited that our LKCMedicine educators have done us proud again today. The award is not just for delivering teaching but for innovation, creativity and passion," said Prof Best, as he warmly offered his congratulations.
