Professor Subra Suresh inspires students and parents at Saturday’s High Tea with the NTU President

More than a thousand top students and their parents were hosted by NTU President Professor Subra Suresh to a High Tea at the Ritz Carlton on Saturday, where he enthused and inspired them with his vision for NTU Singapore.
Prof Suresh who began his tenure as NTU President in January this year spent almost an hour onstage sharing his vision and detailing why NTU should be the top university choice for the young talents.
The tea opened with a welcome by 4th year Humanities student Alicia, who is also a Nanyang Scholar, saying how proud she is to fly the NTU flag. Prof Suresh then went straight to the essence of his address focusing on why NTU is a global leader, that in less than three decades, the university has risen to become one of the most admired and leading global universities. He spoke about NTU’s rapid rise in university rankings, highlighting that NTU is among the world’s top institutions when it comes to citations for cutting-edge research; has more than 220,000 living students and alumni in over 130 countries around the world; engages the best and the latest technology for learning; and is recognised as one of the world’s top 15 most beautiful campuses, attracting more and more leading organisations to work with it as a testbed for innovation.

After detailing the many courses NTU offers and the many colleges, centres and institutes it runs, including NIE which has a proven track record in educating every Singaporean student, Prof Suresh said, “As a university, we have a unique opportunity to impact education in an unprecedented way from the cradle to the grave in novel and unique ways by engaging technology.”
Prof Suresh also highlighted LKCMedicine in his address, saying the medical school’s teaching paradigm is state-of-the-art. He shared that he recently visited the medical school with NTU Provost Professor Ling San, where they spent several hours touring LKCMedicine’s cutting-edge facilities and observing its students during lessons. Prof Suresh – who is an eminent American scientist, engineer and entrepreneur wit h decades of distinguished and impactful leadership in academia, industry and government – concluded, “There is no medical school more advanced than LKCMedicine!”
Towards the end of his engaging presentation, Prof Suresh emphasised that the highest calling of an education at NTU is this: How can one change the world for the better beyond just getting a job and making money?
He then invited the students and parents to a sumptuous afternoon tea.
During the tea, the LKCMedicine booth proved to be a hit among students and parents, with hundreds swarming its booth area to find out more about the innovations at LKCMedicine and the applications process. The School’s Communications and Admissions teams manned the booth, assisting Vice-Dean Clinical Affairs Professor Pang Weng Sun and Assistant Dean for Admissions Associate Professor Kwek Tong Kiat who were present to tackle final concerns and queries about the application process.
