LKCMedicine hosts Imperial students for the Imperial-LKCMedicine student exchange programme
As part of efforts to forge stronger bonds between Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) and Imperial College School of Medicine students, an annual exchange between the two schools was initiated in 2015, with this year being its fourth year in the running.
From 31 August to 7 September, a group of nine Imperial second-year students took part in a week-long exchange in Singapore. This exchange gave them the opportunity to experience LKCMedicine’s curriculum, the life of a medical student in Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore’s unique blend of cultures and of course, bond with the students of their sister school!
During their stay, the Imperial students participated in a Year 2 Team-Based Learning session, an anatomy demonstration, an Integrated Clinical Practice session at Bukit Batok Polyclinic, as well as teaching a science practical on age-related impairments using simulation aids. The students also got a glimpse of life as a medical student in their clinical rounds, as they were each paired with a third Year LKCMedicine student for two days doing clinic and ward rounds.
It was not all work and no play, as the Imperial students visited Gardens By The Bay and the Art Science Museum with their fellow LKCMedicine students. They were also given a taste of Singapore’s various unique cuisines such as Peranakan food, Chinese hotpot, prata and various types of hawker food in Chinatown.
On their last day, they were hosted by Vice-Dean for Education Professor Naomi Low-Beer to a breakfast at the Clinical Sciences Building.
