Digital healtheducation: Addressing our 18 million health worker shortfall
 | The WHO Collaborating Centre for Digital Health and Health Education, hosted at LKCMedicine by our Centre for Population Health Sciences (CePHas), was invited to contribute an article to the "Commonwealth Health Report 2020" titled "Digital health education: Addressing our 18 million health worker shortfall" (see pages 108-110). The Commonwealth Health Report 2020 discusses some of the Commonwealth's most pressing health challenges, from accelerating universal health coverage to addressing communicable and non-communicable diseases, and looks at effective strategies to help Commonwealth member states achieve the ambitions of the health-related UN Sustainable Development Goals. The publication is timely in view of the COVID-19 outbreak declared a global health emergency by the WHO, reinforcing the importance of international collaboration, political commitment and knowledge sharing, to deal with health emergencies in this instance. The abovementioned article by Associate Professor Josip Car and Mr Josh Quah discusses the enormous potential of digital education technologies to address the global shortfall in health workers and considers the application of interactive and immersive modalities to deepen digital competencies of the health workforce.
